Having our devices updated is always something we like because three things can happen: there are performance improvements, it has new features or it’s just a security patch, which is also good . There is a fourth possibility, which is an update that breaks something or makes the experience worse, but that’s not normal.
One device that isn’t updated much is the Chromecast with Google TV, but that will change in 2024. Google has already announced several improvements, such as the arrival of Fast Pair on the platform, but before that, we need to talk of Chromecast Google TV update just released. It is 150 MB and we will explain how to install it.
How to download the new Chromecast Google TV update
Google ended 2023 by improving the Chromecast with an update and will start the year with more of the same. It’s always good news, but what’s more, In 2024 we will have very juicy news for the device.
At CES in Las Vegas, the company announced that it was partnering with TikTok to bring the platform to television with the “Send” feature. Additionally, at some point this year we will be able to connect our compatible TWS headphones to the Chromecast much more easily thanks to the Fast Pair feature.
When this update arrives and we open, for example, the headphone case next to a Chromecast Google TV, a notice will appear indicating that, if we wish, we can connect these headphones to start streaming audio through them.
As we say, this function has not arrived yet, but as we read in Android Authority, and as we have been able to update on our device, Google has just released update STTL.231114.004 for Chromecast with Google TV 4K.
This is an update which weighs 148 MB, which brings the security patch back to December 2023 (the last therefore) and which includes some performance improvements. Even though this improvement is minimal, it’s still welcome considering that sometimes the Chromecast can be choppy.
The update should install automatically, but if it doesn’t, follow these steps to update your Chromecast Google TV to the latest version:
- Enter the Chromecast settings by going to the top right.
- In ‘Settings’ we have to go to ‘System’.
- Once there, click on “Information” and click on “System Update” again.
- It will keep looking for an update and when it finds it we will download it and reboot to apply it.
Once done, your Chromecast will be updated and all you have to do is wait until next month when, supposedly, the long-awaited Fast Pair feature arrives.
