Apple promised earlier this year that before the end of 2020, it would introduce new Macs and new processors made by the company. The Apple Silicon models are here, with the new MacBook Air being the first to be launched.
We compare MacBook Air with M1 and model with Intel to be successful and conclude if you have to start saving to take action into the Silicon years.
Price and availability
With the new M1 processor (many of which are listed below), new MacBook Air prices were expected to rise. Well, it wasn’t, and I’m sure you’re as surprised as we are.
The fact is that Apple has announced that the price will be announced at $1,129, much less than what Air Intel called at the beginning of the year.
This is the fall in price:
IMacBook Air con M1
- IMacBook Air Silicon | Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU and 7-core GPU; 256 GB of storage; 8 GB of RAM
- IMacBook Air Silicon | Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU; 512 GB of storage; 8 GB of RAM
These models replace the MacBook Airs released in early 2020:
IMacBook Air con Intel
- IMacBook Air (2020) | 1.1 GHz Dual Core 10th Gen Intel Core i3; 256 GB of storage; 8 GB RAM
- IMacBook Air (2020) | 1.1 GHz dual-core 10th generation Intel Core i5; 512 GB of storage; 8 GB RAM
If you look, in the 512 GB version has also seen its price reduced by the Silicon model. With the release of Airs Silicon, the previous models have been discontinued, but you should be able to buy them from other retail stores, or at least while the goods remain.
The new MacBook Airs Silicon can be purchased directly from Apple, with its official launch date being November 17th.
Design and functionality
There is no doubt that the major changes made to the MacBook Air are in the electronic components and not without it. The new model is almost identical to the previous model, with a standard circular chassis, measuring 304.1 x 212.4 x 16.1 mm and weighing 1.29 kg.
Ports
On the sides, there are two ports of Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C, compatible with USB 3.1 (2nd gen.), But the new models have a newer version of USB 4, which Apple is thought to have left Intel.
You will also find a port ujack A 3.5mm headphone jack on both models, as well as a Touch ID sensor for unlocking the phone and using Apple Pay online.
Screen
There are a few differences. While there are no changes to the Enlightened Magic keyboard, the screen has been updated to the new MacBook Air. It still has a 13.3 ”IPS IPS panel with 2560 x 1600 resolution and True Tone technology, but Apple has added color gamut wide support (P3).
Silent operation
Another big difference is that this model does not include a fan, which allows the new MacBook Air to operate completely quietly and with hard work, which is sure to become commonplace now that the processor has been validated.
Performance and specification
There is no doubt that the brightness of the new MacBook Air comes in the form of a small square processor in the center of the update.
No traffic on the M1
Apple’s first new Mac chip is the M1 SoC, and it looks like a good starting point. With 8-core CPUs (4-performance and 4-performance) and 7-core or 8-core GPUs depending on the model you buy, it’s a beast.
Apple says the new processor is better than the Intel version on the previous MacBook Air in many ways. This includes the following skills:
- Export web project via iMovie up to 3 times faster.
- Combine 3D effects on video in Final Cut Pro up to 5 times faster.
- For the first time, play and edit high quality 4K ProRes videos in Final Cut Pro without losing frame.
- Send photos from Lightroom up to two times instantly.
- Use ML functions like Smart Conform in Final Cut Pro to fine-tune the clip up to 4.3 times faster.
- Watch many movies and TV shows with up to 18 hours of battery life, the longest ever on a MacBook Air.
- Extend FaceTime and other video calls up to two times more with a single charge.
It’s a very good list, especially considering that Apple compares it to its product and not a competitor.
But this does not end there, because Apple guarantees that, thanks to the M1 storage controller, SSD performance can be twice as fast as the old MacBook Air, while machine-readable (face recognition, etc.) is nine times faster.
CPU performance is three times faster, graphics are five times faster, and all while extended battery life up to 15 hours of web browsing or 18 hours of video playback.
The M1 even improved the grappling 720p FaceTime camera by reducing noise and improving camera image quality, which was important in those days when we never stopped making Zoom calls.
Other improvements have been made, such as the installation of the standard Wi-Fi 6 6 and greater integration with MacOS Big Sur, which means older apps should be able to use the new one. hardware No problem.
The old MacBook Air will also benefit from the new MacOS Big Sur features, but it is clear that Apple is now heavily betting on M1 devices, and the new M1 Mac mini is now available as well.
We’ll just have to check all of this in our file reviewBut Apple tends to be more accurate when comparing its products, so hopefully the new MacBook Air with M1 can bring better results compared to the 2020 Intel version. ratings promise of MacBook Air.

The decision
Newer MacBook Air models with M1s seem to be a big step forward in the range, and the price has not been raised or the old and beautiful design has changed. Other problems may arise, such as any change in hardware
But if the M1 processor becomes part of its capacity, the new Airs will win.
