Microsoft has taken the relationship between its operating system, Windows, and Android phones very seriously. In the Play Store, there is an application that has changed its name to “Mobile Link” as a perfect link for using our smartphone while we use the PC keyboard. It allows, among other things, to view photos, notifications and messages on the computer screen without having to unlock the mobile.
Now, with Copilot – its artificial intelligence chatbot – a little more established a year and a half after its launch, it is preparing to play the role of assistant in the purest Gemini style. Thank you to your new pluginsbegins to acquire functions that allow controlling the mobile from the computer. This is all it currently allows.
Copilot + Mobile Link. The assistant that should be Gemini
As Google rolls out Gemini, its AI solution and new assistant, Microsoft is taking the lead with new Copilot skills. It’s striking that Gemini is trying to replace the traditional Google Assistant, with less features which he has been offering us for so many years. Copilot can also do it recently.
On the other hand, there is the Redmond company, which, without being its home, makes Android a better place with various applications. The new “Mobile link” is to give Copilot the ability to control our phone, and therefore, push us to use the desktop app less.
Windows Latest reported these new features a few days ago, so we didn’t wait any longer to see if they were actually coming. And yes, fortunately, the “Phone” plugin You already have your switch on the Copilot website.
Of course, as we mentioned earlier, It is necessary to have the application configured on both devicesboth mobile and PC. And with all permissions granted, otherwise you will not be able to use the functions that we will see below.
Just in case you haven’t tried the app: you can download it for free from the Play Store by following this link. Once our smartphone and PC are configured, just access the web version of Copilot, and on the right side tap on “Add-ons” and specifically activate “Phone”. From here, Copilot will be more receptive to answering questions and complying mobile related tasks.
Copilot controls your mobile. Or at least, tries to keep it in order
Does a notification arrive on our mobile phone? There is no need to even bring the “Mobile Link” desktop app to the foreground. From the browser (we tested it in Edge), we ask Copilot a question and it will access the smartphone to check it. In the example below, you have read an incoming SMS.
Yes, it is serious. difficulties to display notifications from WhatsApp or other social media apps, these functions are currently being tested and it shows. It is also able to find contacts in our calendar, which is not very useful but demonstrates its capabilities.
On the other hand, it is possible set an alarm I just ask. “Set an alarm for 7:00 PM”, Copilot will show two buttons to accept or reject the request, and then the Android app will inform us. Nothing wrong.
If you read text messages, why can’t you? send? Well yes, it is possible, and it is done quite quickly. As soon as the order was granted, we went to the messaging app to verify that yes, it had been sent.
Apart from what has been seen, there is not much else you can do. Of course, we can play with our instructions to test it: “Give me five random contacts from my address book”, “Translate this notification into English”. The capabilities that Copilot already has can be exploited in this area. mobile integration.
For now, it’s not bad at all and considering that it’s in the testing phase, it already means more than what Google itself added with Gemini in the Android app. Microsoft continues to present its services in our favorite operating system, and we don’t see anything crazy that could put the ultimate assistant that everyone uses.
