Who more and who less suffered the consequences of mixing an electronic device with water. Maybe you dropped your cell phone on the beach or the drink you were about to have ended up on your laptop. If you have a spill-resistant device, fine, but if not, you’ve probably been looking for tricks to recover wet devices.

One of the most typical tricks that you will find if you search the internet is to put the mobile in the rice. The idea is simple: rice traps moisture around it, including that found in the internal components of the device. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s one of those “grandmother’s remedies” that never fails, but it works with anything electronic, like one of the new electric cars ?
dry a car with rice
That’s the crazy idea the Rich Rebuilds channel had when they came across a new Audi e-tron GT that was destined for destruction. The car had been ravaged by a flood and no longer worked; in fact, they were able to buy it really cheap at auction precisely because its owner already considered it lost.
The Audi RS e-Tron GT
And that’s a shame. The e-tron GT is one of the most sought-after electric cars, a real rival to the Tesla Model S in terms of performance (up to 646 horsepower), but with the pedigree and luxury of the best Audis. For something like this to end up in scrap just because of a little water wouldn’t be fair, hence the attempt to salvage it with the oldest trick in the world, with rice.
The process involved creating a container for the car and filling it with no less than 1,900 kilograms of rice, leaving it for several days for the grains to trap moisture from every nook and cranny.
In an unexpected twist, the car managed to start and it is possible to drive again; Although not all the problems have been solved, it is already in much better condition than before.
Now, there are many things that need to be clarified before going to the supermarket to empty the rice shelf. For starters, the creators of the video make it very clear that they only used rice to get attention and for the video to go viral.
The logical and simple thing would have been to use an electric dehumidifier, as they have already done with another electric car that had the same problem. There are also other alternatives like silica gel which are more expensive but also more effective. Finally, the rice they used was inedible, thus avoiding wasting food unnecessarily and only for a few clicks.
In short, it is a curious experiment, but one which has no practical utility.
