With the start of the Major League Soccer season on February 1, the partnership between Apple and MLS began. An agreement in which it was announced that all MLS matches can be seen exclusively on the Apple TV app, starting in 2023 and for the next 10 years.
This is an agreement that will allow fans around the world to follow all MLS and League Cup matches, as well as to follow incidents from selected MLS NEXT Pro and MLS NEXT matches. . Everything from one place without any geographical restrictions or the need to rent additional packages.
Everything seems to be going according to plan with the launch of the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. But, a recent report from The Athletic revealed a fact that was hitherto unknown. And it is that Apple can withdraw at any time.
An agreement that could be terminated if Apple sees fit
The agreement signed between Apple and the MLS with a validity of 10 years seems to include an opt-out clause. This would allow the Cupertino company terminate the agreement if the league does not attract the expected number of subscribers.
When MLS commissioner Don Garber was asked about it, he confirmed nothing and denied anything.. However, he cautioned that Apple and MLS haven’t released specific terms to the public, and that doesn’t appear to be changing.
It is not surprising that such a clause exists in the agreement between the league and Apple. After all, Apple is one of the most powerful companies on the planet.
MLS Season Pass is available through the Apple TV app for $14.99 per month or $99 per season. The service is completely unlimited, so paying fans will have access to Major League Soccer seasonal matches.
