Since September 2025, Google Meet the calls will replace the old Google Duo calls, and the latter will finally be closed foreverwith the elimination of all your data.
In this way, Google will ultimately end a migration process that started almost three years ago, with the announcement of the end of the Google Duo application in June 2022. A surprising decision for the Popularity of the call service.
But it was Time changes in GoogleIn particular with regard to messaging and calls, as Google users know. A migration that is confusing until today.
Basically, the original Google Meet application has been abandoned and changed its name to Google Meet (original); Already change, The Google Duo app has changed its name in Google Meetfunctions inherited from the two.
Over time, the new Google Meet application has evolved independently, but there were still parts that mentioned and Used Google Duo Technology; Something that the company has not been able to eliminate so far.

This means that users They could still make duo calls And access several of its functions within the Meet application, even if Meet already had its own technology to make calls. Finally, we say goodbye to this confusion and other things.
And Google confirmed that the complete closure of Google Duo assumes that Many functions respondIncluding family mode and moments, low lighting mode, and more.
For users, there will be no big difference apart from the loss of these features; Google Meet already allows you to make video calls and calls, and offers a modern experience and with functions such as live subtitles.
Currently, duo calls are used only in cases where a member of the conversation does not have an updated version of the application; In September, these users will have to Update.
The most affected users will be those of Nest Depices with CallicBecause they do not yet support the improved calls of Meet and continue to use the Google Duo platform.
It means that Nest users will be abandoned for the momentBecause they will not be able to receive calls made with the Google Meet application. The company did not specify when it will launch an update for these teams, or even if it will launch it.
There are still bad news: with the closure of Google Duo, the company will Eliminate all data from service users. Therefore, now when we open Google Meet, a warning has been shown that we can lose data.
Among the data that will be deleted are Call history And the video messages we made with Google Duo. The good news is that we have a simple method to make a backup.
To do this, we must open the Google Meet application, open the menu at the top left and click on “Settings”. Then we enter the “Calls (old version)” section.
