Don’t like the way Twitter is doing with Elon Musk at the helm? Do you prefer a social network in which all the power is not concentrated in one person? Well ironically, Twitter itself has the solution.
[El cofundador de Twitter lanza una nueva red social que es básicamente el Twitter del futuro]
Bluesky was originally born as a project for the future of Twitter, a decentralized social network in which privacy and the management of personal data are priorities. It’s Jack Dorsey’s personal project, started before Twitter changed CEO and then owner.
Bluesky now for Android
Now we can finally see what this “Twitter of the future” looks like, since Bluesky has been released for Android. Or rather, we can if we have been invited. Because this social network is not yet accessible to the public, and to enter we depend on an invitation system; in other words, we can only create an account if someone who is already inside has invited us.
But so many difficulties can be worth it. Bluesky is identical to Twitter on the surface, and if you’ve used one, you’ll be fine using the other; in fact, it’s so similar you might wonder where the innovation lies.
The real Bluesky differentiator is how it works. On Twitter, we depend on the company’s servers, which are the ones that store our data and those that give us the information (the tweets) that we are looking for. Therefore, if the servers go down, the service goes down; and if someone has access to these servers, he can get all the information.
Bluesky is a decentralized network, based on the AT protocol that will allow us to connect to other servers outside the official server; therefore, it works much like Mastodon, one of the main alternatives to Twitter. The question is whether it will manage to be more user-friendly than Mastodon, which has failed to attract disgruntled Twitter users precisely because of its complexity and because concepts such as servers are unclear to the user. average user.
Another advantage of Bluesky is that in theory, we should have full power over our data; we can therefore pass them from one server to another, or even adjust the algorithms so that only the messages that we want are displayed and ignore those that we never want to read. Done right, it can solve the big problem of content moderation on Twitter.
With only 25,000 registered users, Blueksy performs very well according to those who have already tried it; but as it opens up, it will face many challenges. Another detail that remains to be confirmed is whether Bluesky will become Twitter, or if it is already an independent project; In the Play Store, the application is registered in the name of Bluesky PBLLC, and not in the name of X Corp (Elon Musk’s company) like the Twitter application.
At the moment, we can only download the Bluesky app from the Play Store. If we try to create an account, we can enter our email to be notified when registration is opened.
