DuckDuckGo wants to conquer the Mac with its new privacy-focused browser. So we can sign up for its beta version

If our privacy matters to us it is very possible that we know DuckDuckGo. The search engine that has the slogan “Privacy, simplified” is now coming to Mac in the form of a browser. A browser that, like the version for our iPhone or iPad, focuses on privacy and gives us a fast and secure browsing experience.

A browser built for privacy

DuckDuckGo’s browser goes far beyond using its renowned search engine to maintain our privacy or being able to quickly open private tabs. The app has several security systems, such as tracker blocking, site encryption, and even email protection. After the iPhone and iPad version was downloaded over 150 million times Since its release in 2018, the team decided it was time to move into the office.

The browser, as advertised by DuckDuckGo, focuses on three pillars to take care and preserve our privacy and give us the best browsing experience possible.

  • DuckDuckGo for Mac gives you privacy by default. In just one download, you get our built-in private search engine, a powerful tracker blocker, new pop-up cookie protection on approximately 50% of sites (this percentage increasing significantly throughout the beta), Fire Button data with one click), email protection and more, all for free. There are no complicated privacy settings, just simple privacy protection that works by default.”

  • DuckDuckGo for Mac is very fast. By using your computer’s built-in website rendering engine (the same used by Safari) and blocking trackers before they load (unlike all major browsers), you will get very fast navigation. We’re already faster than Chrome on some graphics performance (using the Motion Mark 1.2 benchmark) and as a bonus, by blocking trackers, DuckDuckGo uses around 60% less data than Chrome.”
  • DuckDuckGo for Mac is designed for security. Our smarter built-in encryption ensures you browse to the encrypted (HTTPS) version of a website more often, and our tracker blocking means less exposure to third-party scripts that might try to access your data. And we designed our product so that app data, such as history, bookmarks and passwords, is by default only stored locally on your device and cannot be accessed by DuckDuckGo.”

A browser that starts in beta

Currently, the browser is offered in beta phase with waiting list to be able to test it. It is expected that in the coming weeks, just as a version for Windows arrives, it will be available to the public. In the meantime, if we want to grab it already, here’s what we can do:

  1. We open the application DuckDuckGo on our iPhone or iPad (making sure to have the latest version).
  2. We entered Setting then in DuckDuckGo for desktop.
  3. We touch the button to join the private waiting list.
  4. We are waiting to receive the invitation code, as an in-app notification, which will give us the link to download the Mac version.

And that’s all. With this we will be able to start enjoying a browser that, after a solid commitment as a search engine and a qualitative leap towards a browser for iPhone and iPad, now also reaches the desktop. Without a doubt good news for those of us who value privacy when we sail
