Ecobee, the home automation company, has started distributing the firmware update that will allow your SmartCamera to integrate with HomeKit. This integration will bring the Secure Video functionality, a major innovation focused on privacy and convenience.
Privacy and convenience, the reasons for secure video
With the 4.6.35.32 firmware update, SmartCamera cameras will start working with HomeKit Secure Video. Remember that before these cameras were already integrated with HomeKit, but that was limited to being able to see the camera through the app. House and to be able to receive motion detection notifications.
With this update, the recordings that the camera automatically generates based on our motion detection settings will be located directly in iCloud rather than on Ecobee servers. In addition, we can now select the areas where the camera should focus to perform motion detection and facial recognition.
Keep in mind that we need a 200GB storage plan to be able to collect recordings from a HomeKit camera to iCloud and a 2TB for five cameras.
Gradually, most home automation accessory manufacturers are starting to use the iCloud Secure Video feature. This is undoubtedly good news for all users. Being able to know that something as personal as a security camera recording is stored fully encrypted in our iCloud space is an important safeguard of our privacy.
