The cinema is full of stories of assaults, murders, betrayals, scams and attacks of all kinds. We love to see how a victim gets justice by tracking down the bad guy or at least helping the police do it. ‘The Luminous’ (shiny girls) is one such story, but from the first five minutes you realize that something is wrong.
Apple is getting used to mixing genres
‘Las Luminosas’ has Elizabeth Moss playing the lead role, a young woman who finds out how another girl was assaulted in the same pattern as an assault she herself suffered a few years ago. He therefore sets out to find the culprit of the two attacks, in order to protect the new victim and prevent others. For this, he will have the help of a reporter, played by Wagner Moura.
What fails, what makes this series not simple Thriller in French of mystery, is it the reality of the protagonist changes randomly. One day he has a dog, another day suddenly he has a cat. One day she lives with her mother and is single, another day she comes home and realizes that her husband is waiting for her for dinner.
Elizabeth Moss conveys the situation to us well despite the confusion you may have had at the beginning of the series
The aggressor, who has a operating mode very specific when it comes to attacking his victims, he seems to have the ability to time travel. It goes from year to year, changing key moments in the protagonist’s life that change his life forever. Generate a multiverse of possibilities worthy of Marvel Studios movies and series.
Moss is effective in his role, and reflects well the amazement and helplessness with which he discovers the constant changes in his reality. He knows something is up and conveys the situation to us well despite the confusion you may have at the start of the series.
The episodes of ‘Las Luminosas’ follow each other like a Thriller in French of mystery, but they add a fantastic point which is not bad at all. After mixing mystery and comedy with ‘The Afterparty’, it looks like Apple learns to mix television genres with good results. It may not go down in history as one of the best series in the catalog, but for now it remains one of the most original in the catalog right now and offers a good riddle to solve.
