Twitter made peace with Apple through a meeting of their respective CEOs after a series of inflammatory tweets sparked controversy, but that doesn’t mean there’s still no disagreement between the two sides over policies. from the App Store.
Musk recently relaunched his Twitter Blue subscription for $8 a month, but with that price only available on his website. If you choose to subscribe through the App Store, this price becomes $11 per month. In other words: Musk chose to let the user pay the App Store commission.
Goal: get as much revenue as possible
In Europe, the price swells a little more due to the value of the euro against the dollar: 12 dollars per month (at the moment it can only be activated in a few countries but the price is already visible). With Blue, you officially benefit from the following advantages:
- The blue verified account symbol (once you’ve confirmed your phone number with the service)
- edit tweets
- Early access to service news
Musk also promised more perks for subscribers coming “soon”:
- Longer video download
- Fewer advertisements in the chronology
- Priority when displaying your replies in tweet conversations
Additionally, Musk has already warned that he will be removing verification from users who obtained this symbol through the “old” system in the coming months.

It’s no secret that Musk’s arrival has upended his main source of income: advertising. Several advertising agencies left, reducing this source of money to a minimum. Now the goal is to earn as much income as possible., and that’s why Musk didn’t think too much about charging that $8 ($12 if you subscribe through the App Store). You must survive.
Twitter users on iPhone can easily subscribe to Twitter Blue without the inflated price of 12 dollars: they just have to do it through the service’s official website and they have it for 8 dollars a month. But there will always be someone doing it for convenience via the iPhone app, at least as long as the European Union allows it.
But of course, it also remains to be seen if the idea of a Twitter Blue at that price of $8 per month catches on with the user community. We can expect more changes if there are very few subscriptions, and in the case of Elon Musk we can also expect sharper turns in the direction of the social network.
