Emoticons have become one of the simplest forms of communication created by human beings. The condensation of complex emotions with a single symbol has made them omnipresent in digital communication, starting with chats but also through emails or social networks, both in Europe and in most countries around the world. Only memes have managed to compete with them when it comes to summarizing messages, but among adults, even these have not been real competition.
But there was still one area to conquer: voice calls. Google wanted to push the use of this type of elements further integrate them into calls from your Phone app. He achieved this using sounds that reproduce the meaning of these emoticons.
This is a function that has not been announced but is already present on the phones of several users, who use the beta version of this application, more precisely version 128.0.628175044. However, this is a server update, so it is possible that even if this version is installed, this new feature will not appear.
Sounds and animations
Of course, visuals cannot be sent over a phone call. Google decided to convert them into sounds
To use them, you need to open the Google Phone app, click the three-dot menu at the top, enter Settings and search for Audio Emoji to make sure it’s enabled. Once activated we must make a call and it will appear a shortcut for Audio Emojis in the interface
There are seven emojis available, which will surely be more if this feature ends up being widely used, more because of its cuteness than its usefulness. The emojis available are those of clap, laugh and cry, confetti, sad face, poop and drum. To try this new feature, you must use the Google Phone application and be a member of the company’s testing program through the Google Play Store.
