The Council of Ministers held today by the Spanish government ended with news that could lead to changes in Apple products and services in the country. Coming soon products must offer three years warranty, one year longer than what was requested so far.
In addition, manufacturers will need to have spare parts for your products for ten years, double so far. As our colleagues from Xataka comment, the move is the result of a proposal from the European Union to defend the right to repair and increase the lifespan of products, thus avoiding further waste.
A change that will have repercussions
Of course this collides head-on with Apple’s warranty policy in Europe. The company covers the first year of legal warranty for the device you buy where you buy it, but the second year of warranty is covered by the store where you purchased it. You get a three-year warranty with priority support from Apple by purchasing the AppleCare service, which will now need to be reformulated or priced to remain attractive in Europe. Or maybe the price increase is reflected in the product itself, which is also possible.
We do not yet know when this change will take effect. He will do so as soon as the decision is published in the Official Journal of the State. Apple hasn’t commented on the matter yet, but I have no doubt that there will be some sort of change to accommodate this new mandatory three-year warranty.
