Virtually everything in our home can now be smart; and if they aren’t, a simple Internet-connected outlet makes everything smart. Philips was one of the pioneers in the industry with its range of Hue lights.

Today the company showed how it intends to see this technology reach Christmas time too, and if you’re wondering why you’d want to make Christmas ‘smart’, it turns out there’s more than one reason. .

The new product is aptly called Festavia and consists of a chain of LED 250 luc attached to a 20 meter long cable; in other words, the lights of the tree of all life, which we have stored in a drawer throughout the year until the appropriate dates arrive.
At Philips they think it’s better that this year we buy new lamps instead of using the ones we already have, since they are compatible with their Hue platform, with all that that entails. The most obvious advantage is that we can choose the color we want for the lights, including the possibility of configuring each light separately to obtain exactly the effect we want.
Of course, you can waste an afternoon with this, which is why Philips has created new preset scenes that we can choose from in the app that match the festive spirit. We also have access to a new style, which adds a random element, changing the lights between five different colors along the strip, in addition to a traditional flashing effect; the typical thing for Santa Claus or the Three Kings to find our house without problems. Effects that were already available in Hue, such as the candle effect or the chimney effect, also work with the new lights.
But perhaps the most talked about feature at parties will be the ability to sync the lights to the music playing on Spotify, which we hope will be a big hit with typical songs of the era. .
Philips has yet to confirm the price of the Festavia in Europe; in the US they will cost $160.
