It may seem like time is passing very slowly, but almost without realizing it, we have already left the first month of 2021 behind us. rumors about a possible Apple event in the spring They should no longer be treated as something distant: spring begins at the end of March and it is already less than two months away. A few weeks, as who said.
And with the amount of rumors of new services and devices circulating, the hard part is not to wonder if there will be enough material to present an event: the hardest part is imagining. what Apple will choose from all that is pending to present at this event.
News pending in almost all Apple divisions
To date, and while there are several news leaks this spring, there is no clue that specifically speaks of an event slated for March or April. No media has explicitly mentioned it except to say that it “could be celebrated” simply because it has happened in other years. Where I want to go is that we don’t have to assume that this event will be safe
With that clear, we can review what Apple has done in the last few springs. An event in March or April it is not something fixed and permanent like the WWDC events or the presentations of the new iPhones in September. Sometimes they are celebrated, sometimes they are not. And if they don’t hold together, it can happen that we see presentations without an event, as happened with the arrival of the iPhone SE in April 2020.
What news will we see by the end of May? Here is the list of candidates:
- We’ve long been getting clues about the new high-end iPad Pro with a mini-LED display.
- There are traces of a new iPad mini and even a standard iPad that takes the form of the previous generation iPad Air.
- There was talk of a new iPhone SE slated to launch in April, but Ming-Chi Kuo believes that won’t happen.
- Where are those AirTags that have been “on the verge of release” for months?
- The second-generation AirPods Pro have also found their way into the buzz, with a possible release date of April.
Only with this, Apple could already celebrate an event that this would last longer than some we saw last fall. Either that or fill a few launches weeks with press conferences that keep the company in the headlines on a sustained basis. Due to the pandemic, the agendas must change day by day.
Also remember that there are rumors of a new Apple TV and a new approach of the device towards the the game (without abandoning the concept of a multimedia entertainment device), on top of that Apple’s move to say goodbye to Intel chips must continue. The latter can be seen more at WWDC and not during a spring event, in order to surprise developers with the first chips dedicated to professionals. Apple TV could also stay behind the scenes until fall.
And we did not talk about news in Apple services, a division that the company wants to tighten to continue to grow at a sustained pace. This is where we see the strongest changes in Apple: it is no longer enough to think of the Mac, the iPhone and the iPad. Now you have to look at a huge range of accessories, services and news that go beyond the purely technological.
We have no doubt that 2021 will be a year that will keep us very busy. Are we going to start to notice it this spring? It’s possible, but we’ll have to keep an eye out for rumors to see if we get to see an event in March / April or we’ll have to wait until WWDC for it. We will continue to listen.
