In the past, updates reached our mobiles through a complete system update, but the truth is that today they do so on countless fronts, and sometimes without us noticing. Now we know Google will start telling us about something better every time we receive a news package on the mobilewith some information screens that will tell us what’s new.
We learned of the existence of these screens from the hand of Mishaal Rahmanwhich explains that Google is preparing a tour showing the news that has reached our mobile through a google play services update, and on Google Play itself. Some users report that they have already received some of these warnings, although they do not seem to be very widespread yet.
Has this changed on your mobile
When your mobile receives a system update, it usually comes with a more or less detailed list of changes, but with updates from other sources, there isn’t as much transparency. Google started detailing them a few months ago on a support page, but nothing is listed on the mobiles themselves.
The transparency exercise seems to be continuing, as Google Play will start showing a summary of novelties that reach mobile through Google Play updates, as a welcome screen. This will be a way for users to discover what’s new before they stumble upon it by browsing the menus, as usual until now.
Those with a Google Pixel will recognize these types of screens as they were already displayed for details about Google Pixel Feature Dropsbut now they are going to be extended to improvement packages for the rest of Android mobiles, the Android feature removals. The latest package of such improvements included, for example, revoking app permissions that are not being used, more emoji combinations in Emoji Kitchen, and several changes in the Messages app.
It is therefore predictable that for the upcoming Android Drop feature, we discover firsthand when the news arrives on our mobile simply by opening Google Play. This is very welcome news, especially since it’s never clear when Google enables these features for us, as it almost always does so server-side and in an escalated fashion.
