A vulnerability in iOS 13.3.1 was recently discovered to cause VPN services do not cover all communications. Due to this error some information may be displayed along with the device's IP address.
A situation with a temporary solution
It's been ProtonVPN, a Swiss-based VPN company that also offers ProvonMail, a dark-based mail service, that made the announcement. Investigators have discovered that, by mistake, IOS does not end all existing connections after connecting to a VPN network.
We will explain it in a simple way. VPN network, that is virtual private network In short, it works by directing all the communication of the app to a specific server and do it in writing. Before connecting to a VPN server, the communications that our device opens, for example receiving notifications, are not encrypted or directed to the server.
When connecting to a VPN service, the system is expected to communicate and establish it, in which case it must terminate all existing communications so that, when it is automatically started again, it will pass through the VPN. Well there's a question, not all connections are connected, it leaves open communication transparent
In iOS and iPadOS, VPN applications do not have access to disconnect existing network connections, so the solution should be provided by Apple. While waiting for the next software update to resolve this situation we have a small source: Flight mode. When we connect to a VPN server and work in airplane mode we force the call to end all communication. Later, by disabling the flight mode, the VPN connection is restarted and the following connection should enter the encrypted VPN connection.
Needless to say, the longer it takes for a call to connect to a VPN server, the more likely it is to communicate has been established, and also avoids VPN encryption and security.
The latest update of iOS and iPadOS 13.4 does not address the solution to this error. Apple is aware of this situation and we will see an update from this. In the meantime, let's use VPN communication with caution.
