The company Fitbit, now in the hands of Google, announced the recall of the Ionic model, a model launched in 2017 to compete with Apple’s Series 3. The reason for the recall is due to the increasing number of complaints of burns caused by this device.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in conjunction with Fitbit, issued a statement warning users that stop using them immediately
According to what they say Fitbit received 175 reports of device overheating. Of these 175 people, 118 said they had suffered burns, including 2 third degree and 4 second degree.
Fitbit One released a statement indicating that units affected by this issue only represent 0.01% of units solda model that was on sale until 2020 when the Versa model launched, although some platforms continued to sell it.
The company claims to have sold over one million units of the Ionic in the United States and 700,000 in the rest of the world. Users experiencing this issue should visit the Fitibit website and request removal of the device as well as reimbursement of the amount they paid at the time.
Additionally, they will also receive a 40% discount voucher
When the Ionic hit the market in 2017, it was one of most complete models on the market with a large number of options to track any sport, GPS, heart rate sensor, altimeter, blood oxygen sensor… all accompanied by a battery of up to 3 days.
Google bought Fitbit in 2019 and it won’t be until this year when it’s presented the search giant’s first smartwatch in combination with Fitbit, or so the latest rumors suggest.
