A Very Funny Story About How An Employee Accidentally Steals Steve Jobs’ MacBook
Over time, things about Steve Jobs that have long remained hidden come to light, from joke calls to the CEO of Spotify to new examples of his perfectionism at major corporate headquarters. Today, we bring you a new story that has just come to light a former Apple employee who worked with Steve and accidentally stole the then-Apple CEO’s MacBook.
In an episode of Hector Rodriguez’s The Eavesdrop podcast, former Apple VP of Advertising Andy Miller shared an incredible story about the accidental theft of a MacBook and the mouse of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs during a heated meeting in the office of Apple’s late CEO.
Stealing Steve Jobs’ MacBook Wasn’t a Good Idea
Andy Miller joined Apple from Apple Corporation to buy advertising company Quattro Wireless for $275 million in late 2009since then he reported directly to Jobs. Miller remained at Apple until late 2011 after leading Apple’s mobile advertising group that created iAd.
In this Miller podcast reveals how the process of Apple acquiring his company wentwhich took place during a meeting with Jobs himself in which he ended up accepting an offer slightly lower than he had expected.
He then started working on Apple’s advertising platform. His goal was to create sample ads that will demonstrate the potential of the iAd platform. Miller and his company created several ads mocking other companies’ ads like McDonald’s and presented them to Apple’s management team.
After about ten minutes everyone was laughing except Steve, I thought I was done for.
Steve Jobs didn’t like the job at all, especially because he didn’t want Apple to be lumped in with low-quality brands and not reflect Apple’s high-end aesthetic. Jobs called Miller to his office shortly after, and the protagonist still remembers the fight well. Eventually, he told him to “get out of there and go talk to the Marcom department, who made better ads.” Miller He hurriedly gathered his things and also inadvertently took Steve’s MacBook and mouse..
Half an hour later, two security guards appeared, entered the office, and handed him a phone. Jobs was on the other end of the line and said “Why did you steal my laptop?” Miller tried to explain the mistake and managed to convince Jobs that he had not copied the secrets from his personal computer. At that point, he thought he had been fired and had just returned Jobs’ laptop and mouse pad to the security guards. “I kept his damn mouse”remember. To this day, Miller says he still has Steve Jobs’ mouse in his house.
