Jonathan Ive It needs no introduction to any Apple enthusiast. If Steve Jobs was the mastermind, “Jony” Ive was the designer who translated the founder’s ideas into the final product. Fifteen years ago no one imagined an Apple without Jonathan Ive, and now we’ve learned to do it by force.
But what happened to Ive now that he’s been out of Apple’s influence for some time, even as a third-party customer? Well the designer did everything but restand the latest example is the most recent and even historic.
From Apple Park to owning a design company
After announcing he was leaving Apple in June 2019, Jony Ive started his own design studio called LoveFrom. Defined as a “collective of creatives”, it is now considered one of the best studios in the world. love and furysays his motto.
It is from this study that Jony Ive was to continue to collaborate with Apple. Not as vice president of industrial design, but as freelance designer who had Apple as a client
At the same time it was doing this, LoveFrom was finding other collaborations with big brands. In 2020, during the pandemic, he partnered with Airbnb to find new products and services that the well-known company could offer. Almost a year later, he did the same with Ferrari, nothing less. And this latest deal includes Ive joining the influential board of Exor forum partners.
But the press said it: relations between Apple and Jony Ive were not the best. Eventually, the LoveFrom studio parted ways with the company, marking the end of Ive’s tenure with the company. It wasn’t a collaboration, but we could consider parting ways that I was involved in one of the Apple TV+ Christmas shorts.
From there, Ive continued to be involved in other projects outside of Apple. Things as simple as a clown’s nose for a British charity…
…to the logo of none other than the coronation of King Charles III of England. According to the firm, he evokes the “friendly optimism” of spring:
From now on we will continue to see more freelance work from Jony Ive for other brands as long as the designer still wants to work. His collaborations with Apple are already history, and his war stories with Steve Jobs, like when an Android manufacturer launched a mobile too close to the iPhone:
