Samsung launched the new Galaxy S24 family of mobile phones in January, and with them came Galaxy AI, a series of artificial intelligence functions integrated into One UI, which were initially exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24, but which over time reached more of the company’s devices.
Or at least most of these functions It has reached the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and will also reach the Galaxy S22. However, There is a function that has remained exclusive to the most powerful cell phones, but fortunately it is the least useful function: instant slow motion.
If any Galaxy AI feature had to be exclusive, I’m glad it’s this one
Galaxy AI is full of very useful features, such as real-time call translation Which, honestly, works really well. We also have the ability to translate the chats we participate in into tools such as WhatsApp and Instagram direct messages, which is a great addition to the user experience and daily life.
In the case of the camera, or rather the image gallery, Galaxy AI has implemented new features such as the AI editor which allows you to enlarge an image or modify the position and size of an object or a subject in a photo. All these functions are Available for all supported devices to datelike the Galaxy S23, and also for the Galaxy S22, which will soon receive the update to One UI 6.1.
Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will not receive Galaxy AI: instant slow motion feature
However, the instant slow motion feature will not reach the Galaxy S22, nor the Galaxy S23 FE nor the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Indeed, for To use this feature, the device requires more powerful hardware.
Instant Slow Motion allows you to convert a video, or part of the video, into slow motion just by keeping your finger pressed on the screen when he plays. In order to obtain the most ideal result, the system creates images using AI which then play with the real images.
The result is a slow motion video it looks fluid, almost perfect, as if the original video had been recorded in slow motion, and not edited to achieve the result. And after converting a section to slow motion, we can edit the whole video and integrate the part we slowed down into the whole video, for a more fun result, as you can see in the example above.
According to Samsung, this feature requires the use of an NPU (neural processing unit) and a GPU (graphics processing unit) more powerfulwhich are currently only present on the devices we have already mentioned.
This makes instant slow motion the most unique Galaxy AI feature yet, and I’m grateful that it’s this one and not another. It’s true, instant slow motion offers some interesting results, but it’s definitely the feature I used the least after updating to One UI 6.1, so much so that I often forget that it exists.
On the other hand, Circle for search, the translator integrated into chats, the possibility of creating wallpapers, interpreter mode, smart notes and AI capabilities of Samsung’s browser are AI functions that are already part of my daily life.
So if you own a Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Z Flip 4, you can rest easy. Yes, you won’t be able to use this feature to turn videos of your pets running and playing into slow-motion videos, but that’s not the end of the world. You can just do what you’ve always done: record the video in slow motion.
The most important features of Galaxy AI, the most useful will reach these devices, and once you start using them and incorporating them into your routine, it’s hard to go back. In the case of older devices, like the Galaxy S21, we will have to wait to find out what artificial intelligence features they will receive, but we can expect the list to be smaller.
