2024 will start very strongly in the smartphone sector. For the month of January alone, several launches have already been announced, such as the OnePlus 12 and the Samsung Galaxy S24, and more news is expected soon from competitors like Xiaomi. The case of Samsung is striking, because it represents an advance compared to the usual dates on which it presents its main mobile phones.
The change to a presentation in January is logical, because until now Samsung has always been “the last” to present its best assets; With January approaching, the company will have more opportunities to convince users. It also helps that the Galaxy S24 line isn’t revolutionary, at least compared to the Galaxy S23; A very similar design is expected with some hardware improvements. Where Samsung will put the rest will be in the Artificial Intelligence functions, which will be numerous and will aim to become an alternative to the Pixel 8 Pro.
To achieve this, Samsung may be keeping an ace up its sleeve: price. And according to the latest leak from the Netherlands, many models in the S24 range would be cheaper than those of the S23 range. In some cases the difference reaches 50 dollars, although in exchange a particular model will be a little more expensive; Despite this, the price drop means users could get a new Samsung at a price we haven’t seen in a long time.
More precisely, according to the leak The starting price of the Galaxy S24 would be 899 dollars, 50 dollars less than the Galaxy S23. This is the same reduction that the Galaxy S24+ would have, which would cost 1,149 dollars compared to 1,200 dollars for the Galaxy S23+. Finally, the only model whose price would increase would be the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which would cost 1,449 dollars, an increase of 40 dollars compared to the initial price of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Of course, we are talking about Samsung, so we expect many launch offers and sales throughout the year, as happened with the last generation; But this also means that these discounts could be even more attractive from a lower price.
Another important difference besides the price is the components used; more precisely, in processors. The rumors seem to have come true, and Samsung is finally using its own chips again in the Galaxy S24; but only in the cheapest models. According to the leak, the base Galaxy S24 I would use an Exynos 2400 in Europe, and only American and Canadian users would benefit from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is very possible that the price reduction was decided to counteract this change compared to the last generation. At least the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra would have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and not just any Snapdragon 8, but a special edition for Galaxy phones that won’t be used in competing phones.
