One of the most surprising features we saw live from the presentation of the new Google phones was Gemini Live. Gemini is the American company’s AI, which acts as both an application and now an Android assistant, replacing the traditional Google Assistant. And now it’s getting better thanks to the advancement of language models like Gemini 1.5 Flash.
This allowed Google to launch an optimized version so that it would be able to converse without delay, as if it were a person: similar to conversational mode of ChatGPT that blew us away when it was first introduced. While Gemini Live initially required a Google One subscription, it is now suddenly free. And it is starting to become available.
Gemini Live is now free
Although Gemini Live is initially only available in English in the United States, it also requires a payment of 21.99 dollars per month. A barrier to entry that could scare away many users, even if it includes access to the Mountain View company’s most advanced AI: Gemini Advanced.
Anyway, it brings Gemini’s smart capabilities to the conversation: while the default mode takes some time like any of these similar tools (ChatGPT too), the Live version speeds up its responses to let us chat with our Android smartphone.
Fortunately, the official story of Google Gemini and X (formerly Twitter) surprised everyone with a short announcement that we are celebrating:
We’re starting to roll out Gemini Live in English to more people using the Android app, for free. Enjoy live streaming to discuss your Gemini issues, explore a new topic, or exchange ideas. Keep an eye on Gemini Live in the Gemini app 👀
In fact, Gemini Live has completely changed its access, becoming one more free service among many others that Google groups together. Thus, Android users can use the conversation mode without needing a Google One AI Premium subscription.
The reasons for this change? They are unknown. and it will come only one android
What doesn’t change is the language spoken by Gemini Live.– Remains exclusive to American English for now. It is not necessary to access from a VPN, although for the moment we do not have access on a Pixel. We will have to wait, as always, for the deployment to be completed. That does not mean that it is not good news.
