In mid-2023, General Motors announced that it would not offer Android Auto or CarPlay compatibility in its future electric vehicles, a decision that sparked quite a bit of discontent. Fortunately, the first solutions are starting to emerge to regain compatibility.
The kit will be very useful for owners of new General Motors vehicles
As we could read in an article published by InsideEVs, the American company Automotive & Media Services announced the arrival of a kit with which owners of the most recent electric vehicles from General Motors They will be able to use Android Auto or CarPlay without any problem.
Of course, it is important to keep in mind that we are not talking about one of the multiple screens with Android Auto that are placed on the car dashboard and connected to the vehicle via the cigarette lighter. Instead, the kit takes care of back compatibility with Android Auto and CarPlay to the car's own infotainment screen.
The company promises full integration both wired and wirelesswhich constitutes a real plus for all buyers of one of the new General Motors vehicles. The kit in question is compatible with the Chevy Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV, as well as the GMC Sierra EV.
The announcement from Automotive & Media Services generated a lot of interest, although availability of the kit appears to be very limited. The reason could be related to the complexity of the installation, since it is not something we can install ourselves. Actually, At the moment, it is only installed in one center in Michigan. The price or information about the process does not appear on the manufacturer's website, although we can see a video with the result.
At this point, it is interesting to note that we learned a few weeks ago that General Motors seemed to be re-evaluating compatibility with Android Auto and CarPlay in its electric vehicles. At least that's what the survey that the manufacturer sent to some of its customers suggests, in which they asked what we would do if the car we were considering buying was not compatible with Android Auto. Of course, as of now, that doesn't seem to be the case.
