At this point we cannot deny that WhatsApp is the ultimate messaging platform in many countries. The application arrived on the market in early 2009 and experienced unprecedented growth that led Facebook (at the time it was not yet called Meta) to take an interest in the platform: the company ended up buying WhatsApp for 19 billion dollars.
Today, WhatsApp is not just a messaging platform: we can use the app to make voice and video calls, send audio and video notes, and use WhatsApp statuses to share photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours. Although we have other alternatives at our disposal, WhatsApp remains the main option for most.
We can silence calls from unknown numbers to prevent them from disturbing us
Personally, I prefer to use platforms like Telegram or Signal, although I still use WhatsApp for all those occasions when a contact does not use these platforms: each messaging app has its strengths and one of the main advantages of WhatsApp is that everyone uses it. Despite this, the spam that circulates through this app is particularly annoying.
The fight against spam on WhatsApp is not a mystery: we just have to block the numbers of the accounts that send us suspicious messages to prevent them from continuing to contact us. Of course, there is something more uncomfortable than spam messages: WhatsApp calls from strangers.
Although it is not extremely common, it is likely that you have already received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number. It has happened to me on several occasions and sometimes they are quite insistent, calling several times in a row. In general, the calls They come from numbers with prefixes from other countries.
Even though I never answered these calls, they are much more uncomfortable than spam. Fortunately, the app has an option in the privacy settings which allows us to silence these calls and prevent anyone with our number from bothering us by calling us via WhatsApp.
Activating this option is very simple: just open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Confidentiality > Callswhere we will find the option “Silence calls from unknown numbers”. Once we activate it, WhatsApp will take care of silencing these calls. Of course, they will continue to be displayed in the calls tab and in our notifications so that we can see that someone was trying to contact us.
This is undoubtedly a very useful setting in case you often receive calls from unknown numbers through the application. It should be kept in mind that if we call back or write to the number that called us, we will not be able to cut off their calls in the future and we will only have the option to block the number.
