Google announced Tuesday that the latest version of its Chrome browser for Mac includes three new AI-powered features. The features are in Chrome version M121, which will install automatically when you launch the app.
The new features, described by Google as “experimental generative AI features to make navigation even easier and more efficient,” will be available “in the coming days” as the new version rolls out to Macs and PCs Windows. Here are the new features.
- Tab organizer: Chrome can automatically suggest that a set of tabs be grouped together, which is handy when searching for a topic. Chrome’s suggestion also includes a name and an emoji for quick recognition. The feature can be enabled by right-clicking on a tab and selecting Organize similar tabs in the context menu.
- Themes: Google introduces the text-to-image streaming model used in Android 14 and Pixel to Chrome for Mac. Themes can be created based on a color, mood, subject, or visual style. This feature is accessible in the Chrome side panel; select Customize Chrome > Change the theme > Create with AI. A collection of themes from the Chrome team is at your disposal.
- Help me write: AI has been touted for its ability to create content, and Google is implementing an “experimental” feature that helps users write. With any text box, users can right-click it and select Help me write.
To update your Chrome browser, go to Settings tab in the Chromium menu, then select About Chrome and check for available updates. To try the new features, sign in to your account in Chrome, select Settings from the three-dot menu in the right corner, then select the Experimental AI tongue. Google says the features are “public first experiments” and will be disabled for enterprise and education accounts.
