According to a new report, Apple earns more than the officially recognized search revenue paid by Google!
Between Google and Apple nothing is absolute. Just as they can compete, they can also negotiate, when both have the most to gain. We have known for a long time that Google pays Apple a million dollars to make its search engine appear by default on devices such as iPhone, iPad or Mac. The figure is estimated to have reached 15,000 million in 2021 and approached 20,000 million in 2022. But these figures may have been insufficient.
According to information shared by AppleInsider, citing a 2021 report from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Google also reportedly paid Apple for search revenue generated by Chrome, which would be an amount greater than the officially recognized search revenue paid by Google.
The most important agreement between Apple and Google
Although agreements on this subject are not new, for many years rumors have been circulating about the possibility for Apple to develop its own search engine, one that, unlike Google’s, would be privacy-focused. However, the current report estimates that there are more incentives the idea of which does not end up materializing.
Given this revenue sharing, when [x] o Safari succeeds in winning over an iOS user, instead of earning a full share of search traffic revenue, it only earns a partial share (i.e. revenue you weren’t entitled to before) . competition between browsers on iOS.
Before the report, neither Apple nor Google talked about it. There are also no known details on how much Google might pay Apple because of Google Chrome.. However, these types of negotiations often lead to antitrust lawsuits, due to the concerns they generate for competing search companies as well as companies that advertise on Google and users themselves, due to the cost of advertising and products.
With no details on this potential deal, Apple has long been rumored to launch its own search engine. However, in November last year, a report by The Information claimed that there are still “at least four years” to see it.
Interestingly, the main reason for the delay is said to be the lack of a qualified team for its development. Apple acquired Laserlike at the end of 2018 to try to promote the development of its own web search engine. It was a startup founded by a trio of ex-Google engineers. But according to the information, The founders of Laserlike have returned to Google.
