The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine is still active, and day by day we see how it is progressing. Some companies are making symbolic gestures for the protection of the civilian population, and the last was Google, which turned off traffic information in Ukraine so as not to reveal information about the number of people on the streets of the European country.
Traffic data in Ukraine will not appear on Google Maps
The American company made the decision to temporarily disable traffic information in Ukraine during the Russian invasion, since, until now, it was possible to know, more or less, if there were people in the street thanks to this functionality of the company.
This feature uses anonymous information about the location of smartphones to know if there is a busy street or traffic on a highway, and this data is public and accessible from anywhere in the world.
According to @GoogleMaps, there is a “traffic jam” at 3:15 a.m. on the road from Belgorod, Russia to the Ukrainian border. It starts *exactly* where we saw a Russian armor and IFV/APC formation appear yesterday.

From now on, this information will temporarily not be available globally, which Google made to protect the security of local users after consulting with Ukrainian authorities, according to Reuters.
Instead, the company claimed that data will be available for local drivers beginning turn-by-turn navigation in the area. This is further evidence of how companies that manipulate big data can influence international conflicts and events through the vast amount of information they process.
