Google Discover now uses hashtags or tags in its news

Discover, Google, hashtags, news, tags

Reading the news was the morning routine for many in Europe for decades before smartphones became popular. Newspapers remain the main source, now struggling with social networks.

Before paper became the norm, screens are now. Google knows this and that’s why it designed Discover, one of the simplest and most used apps in its ecosystem.

Google Discover now uses beacons

The latest update of this application integrated in most Android mobiles has added a new way to navigate between different news, tags, hashtags which are widely used on social networks like Twitter.

This element appears, as you can see in the images, at the bottom of each news item, just below the image and text. Sometimes there is only one tag while in others you may see several, always related to the topic of the article.

For now, this is a feature that only some users have been able to see, so it’s possible that Google is doing A / B testing where it uses different things for different groups of users and studies what works best.

Hopefully this feature will reach the world soon and in more countries paid news will be able to be viewed from Discover as is already happening in some places.
