Google’s eye recently fell on its smart device control app, Google Home. In addition to a redesign, version for Wear OS and new home routines, the application is now launching a web version to be able to view our security cameras from the browser.
Google announced that the web version of Google Home would arrive earlier this month, although the rollout has only now begun, as the company announced in its forums. We now also know more details about it, such as which camera models can be controlled from the web.
Your cameras, in the browser
You can control your security cameras from any device that has the Google Home app installed, but now there’s a more universal way to do it: with the browser. To do this, simply go to home.google.com and log in with your account. This, if you have the new feature active, as it is still being rolled out. Otherwise, you won’t see a button to sign in.
In this web version of Google Home, you will only be able to see your security cameras, and not all of them. Fundamentally only works with Nest devices. From the web, you can view all cameras or just one, as well as turn cameras on and off, wake up inactive cameras, and view their status.
At this time it is not possible to control another Google Home device from the web and in terms of cameras the list of Compatible Devices is limited to the following:
-
Nest Cam, with and without battery
-
Nest Cam with projector cable
-
Nest Doorbell with and without battery
-
Nest Doorbell 2nd Generation Wired
-

-
