Google is testing the functionality

functionality, Google, testing

Google already has a few ecosystems that work almost independently (saving WearOS) but still maintain links with each other. We have Android on mobiles and tablets, ChromeOS on computers, Android TV on televisions and also Android Auto for connected vehicles. And little by little, the company strengthens the links between all with the mobile in the center.

In the past Google I / O, the company had already announced that a new function was arriving to install applications on WearOS watches from the mobile phone, a function which finally landed in June. Now what Google publishes is the same function but for televisions. Also in the deployment period, we can now install applications on our TV from the Google Play Store of our Android.

The function was not announced by Google but its arrival was detected by the user community. Concretely, it is Reddit user r / avigi, who reports that in his Google Play Store for mobile a new dialog box has appeared under the applications. This user can not only install the application on the mobile but also you can send it to your Android TV device.

How to use your mobile as a remote control for Android TV or Google TV

This is, from what can be seen in the screenshot, a similar option to the one we have when we access the Google Play Store from the web. There we can choose, in a drop-down list, which device is the one that will receive the requested download. So when the chosen device connects to the Internet, the download begins. Now from mobile we can also choose Android TV device, since decoders to the televisions themselves.

Apparently the function is not yet available worldwide so everything indicates that Google is testing with a limited group of users. When that happens, it doesn’t take long for the company to finally release the option for the rest of the users and that’s when the official rollout begins. We hope it won’t take long for the option to become available before we can start testing it. Until now, installing apps on an Android TV required accessing the Google store from the device itself, but that will change soon.
