One of the best features of modern Android phones, and one that perhaps doesn’t get as much love as it should, is “Share with Nearby,” also known simply as Nearby Share.
This feature allows share files between two mobiles, in a direct, simple and safe way; This is exactly what millions of users have been asking for for decades, that at the touch of a button, it is possible to send a photo, video or document to another device. All this, without the need to take intermediate steps such as uploading it to cloud storage first or sending it via email.
Today, nearby sharing goes even further, with the launch of the official version for Windows
Nearby Share for Windows
In fact, this release is no surprise; Nearby Sharing was originally released for Windows last May, but it was a beta version that still had bugs and bugs to fix. Instead, the version presented today by Google is the final and stable version, and therefore we can recommend its installation without fear. Additionally, the developer has included some beta news that improves the experience.
Nearby Share for Windows is a program that, once installed on our Windows computer, allows us to send and receive files using the Google protocol. The only requirements are that the computer has a Bluetooth connection in addition to a WiFi connection, in order to be able to connect the two devices and transfer the file respectively. Moreover, the program is only compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11, so it will not work on older versions of the system.
Once installed, we will have the option of logging in with our Google account, although it is perfectly possible to use it without an account. All that remains is to configure the name of the computer (how it will appear in the list of devices on our mobile), and choose your privacy settings; by default, no one can send you files without first making the device visiblealthough it is possible to modify it.
The nearby sharing interface is easy to understand. We can decide whether the computer is visible, whether it can be found by other devices or whether it should remain hidden so as not to accept files. On the right is where we can drag the files or folders we want to send, or select them with the buttons. The process is very similar to file sharing between two mobilesand therefore we must make sure that the mobile allows the reception of files or we will not be able to find it.
A novelty concerning the beta is in a new preview in notifications, which will allow us to see the image we have received without having to open it. In addition, we can now see the estimated time the transfer will take, which can be particularly useful in the event that we want to transfer large files such as videos.
