Google Maps receives widgets in its iOS application

application, Google, iOS, Maps, receives, widgets

We already take it for granted, but iOS 14 really changed the game from the iPhone home screen. Apple has literally never offered this level of customization on iOS before. And one of the most critical changes it has undergone is the system widget library.

The same goes for the new Google Maps widgets.

Until the arrival of iOS 14, widgets were relegated to a separate section of the system. The, the limits were quite obvious, especially in terms of design. However, the update opened the home screen to them. And, of course, that required a complete overhaul of each of the widgets to keep pace.

The “problem” with this overhaul is that not all developers need to pay attention to it. Ultimately, this is an additional and optional feature. Fortunately, from Google, they have joined the party with some of their apps. And between them, we finally found google maps in its latest available version, as shared by MacRumors.

With the latest update to Google Maps, now available on the App Store, iOS 14 and above users they can now access these new widgets. In the included designs we find a 2 × 2 widget to display the location, and another 4 × 4 with shortcuts for the locations of interest and search.

Thus, a new application joins the trend. Thanks to him, we will have even more options at our fingertips to turn our home screen into a quick access point to the most relevant information. Hopefully the trend remains, especially now that iPadOS 15 will also bring widgets to the main screen of Apple tablets.
