We’ll show you how you can enable speedometer and speed limits in Google Maps, a feature that has been available in the app for some time, but may not have been enabled for some reason. It is a very useful function when we drive with the car as GPS, to know at all times the speed at which we are driving and the limits of the road.
functionality is available on any Android with the updated Google Maps app. There are also alternatives to Google Maps, such as Waze, with this feature, although in this article we will focus on the Google app.
How to Enable Google Maps Speedometer
Initially, Google Maps for Android distinguished between speedometer and speed limit functions, but we now have a single parameter that shows both options. To activate it, you just need to follow these steps:
- Open the Google Maps app.
- Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner.
- Click on ‘settings’.
- Go to “Navigation settings”.
- Activate the ‘speedometer’ function.
As the name suggests, the speedometer tells you in real time the speed at which you are driving. In the same way, Maps will tell you the speed limit of the road and, if you exceed it, the speedometer will change from black to red.
Maps does not give warning sounds or alerts for exceeding the road speed limit, only through this change in the UI. Google indicates that this speedometer is indicative although, in the server’s experience, has near-exact accuracy comparing with the physical speedometer of the vehicle.
