If drivers get tired of touchscreens and force Volkswagen to increase the number of physical buttons on their cars, speed bumps are another nightmare in some cities. Now Google Maps will display the exact location of speed bumps which are located in Pune, a city in India. An initiative that, if it works, will be moved to other cities in the Asian country with the hope that Google will extend it to other countries such as Europe.
And the streets of many Spanish cities are full of speed bumps which aim to encourage drivers to reduce the speed of their vehicle when traveling in urban centers. You just have to cross a few villages near Madrid (Majadahonda itself) to try the speed bumps which are usually very wide and of a height that, if you crossed them at high speed for any reason, would generate a big jump with the vehicle.
The Pune Municipal Corporation announced that will share location data of all speed bumps of the city with Google Maps. The objective is to help citizens control the speed of their vehicles to avoid a possible startle or fright; especially in those that have considerable height and almost become a trampoline at certain speeds.
Safety is also the main focus for the presence of speed bumps on Google Maps. In Pune, there are more than 2,500 speed bumps spread across the city.and although they were installed to reduce speeds on roads or streets in certain areas of the city, they often cause accidents due to poor visibility and other factors.
The idea is that speed bumps work in the same way as Google Maps speed cameras. That is to say, when the user has his hands on the steering wheel of his utility vehicle, he will receive a warning informing him that he is about to cross a speed bump. This warning will allow you to reduce your speed in time so as not to literally “eat” the speed bump; and thus help car mechanics who are suffering as we can see in a video made by a YouTuber.
Hay two main goals for speed bumps to appear on Google Maps: Reduce the average speed on streets with speed bumps and avoid accidents that do occur. Yes, according to MySmartPrice, at the moment it is unclear when Google plans to integrate speed bumps into the app. Everything will depend on the success of this initiative by the technology giant in India to extend it to other cities and finally to Europe, one of the countries with the highest number of speed bumps in the world.
