Recording calls on Android has been more complicated than usual for quite some time, with Google itself bringing in and removing support for this depending on the version of the system you’re on. However, it seems that the Google Phone application has put the batteries and now a new service upgrade is being prepared.
If Pixel phones already had permission to re-record calls through the native app, and later this feature worked at other brands like Xiaomi and Nokia, now what Google is offering is automatic call recording. Automatic? Indeed. That we can activate that all calls are recorded automatically. From whom? Unknown numbers.
Automatic recording and local storage
It might seem like a temple obvious, but when we know the number that is calling us, we know who is calling us. We know who a more or less trustworthy contact is and what it is. But itwhen the number is unknown, a thousand and one situations can occur and some of them can be fraudulent.
However, the upcoming feature of the Google Phone app can help us avoid this by offering us to record every call we receive from an unknown number. In other words, from any phone number that does not appear on our calendar. So we can have a recording of what happened during the call and decide later whether to delete it or not
The recordings will be stored only on the phone and the app will notify both parties
The feature appeared in the code of the app in one of its latest updates, the one for Google Phone version 59. We detect there several lines of code ready to be activated in the near future (We assume that they will not be permanently rejected) and that they will activate functions in the options of the application. And these options speak explicitly of allowing automatic recording of unknown numbers to store audios in the phone.
The feature will not only be responsible for recording our incoming calls, but also informing you that if we are in a territory where it is necessary to inform both parties of the recording, the app will take care of it. In each call we can decide, however, if we want to accept this. Not only us, but also the person calling us. If we receive a call and we don’t accept, we will continue the call without recording. If the other person does not accept, the call will be automatically canceled.
