Google's strategy regarding its products is curious to say the least. After all, the Mountain View company is known for taking turns that may end in the end of some of them: an example is the end of Stadia in 2023 (but its cemetery is full) or name changes , as we saw recently with its Artificial Intelligence, before Bard and now Gemini. Well, then, Changes are coming to Google Photos and it's time to say goodbye to some functions.
Specifically, it's time to say goodbye to “Memories”, one of the functions that we find in the bottom bar of the application and how useful it is to remember special moments with your loved ones, or simply of a day in this one. you did something special. The good news is that only the name changes, because Even if the “Memories” are gone, the show goes on.
Goodbye to memories, hello to moments
As 9to5Google predicted, Google is transforming its photos app with a new design that abandons the “Memories” tab in favor of a new name: “Moments”which will also continue to be present in the application but no longer hidden.
It was in August 2023 that Google introduced this tab, a sort of album that automatically organizes certain images around a specific event or moment. After more than a year of operation, a change of name and location is made, since will now be in the 'Collections' tabas well as albums, documents, places, people and pets. Below these lines, you can see the new distribution of tabs in the bottom bar, when the update is executed:
Once inside these renewed 'Moments', during our first visit, we will find the following message: 'Your photos, organized according to your best moments. Add details, search and share with others'.
Therefore, the bottom bar will be much cleanerwith only three options: “Photos”, “Collections” and “Search” (or ask, since it will use Gemini technology, following the trend that Google would have already applied to Google Maps.
At the moment, this new feature has started to be implemented in iOS (version 7.9), so the Android version should arrive as soon as possible.
