With the new step taken by some manufacturers to include their own image gallery, it is now easier to save the camera roll in Google Photos: Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus and Realme integrate a new option to make backup copies in the Google Images application. The new setting is active in newer versions of galleries.
Google Photos may have lost a huge amount of appeal once the company decided to turn off the tap on unlimited backups, but that doesn’t mean it stops being a good app, especially for users. content categorization and search. And also for backup in the Google cloud: in addition to the free 15 GB offered by each account, it is always possible to add space with a Google One subscription. And this extra space needs to be fed.
Copy photos from your Xiaomi, OPPO or OnePlus to Google Photos without opening this app
One of the paradoxes of Android devices is that, depending on the manufacturer of the phone or tablet, that device will include a multitude of duplicate applications. For example, Samsung or Xiaomi phones add their own browser in addition to Google Chrome, they include their own application stores and, what concerns us, also their default image galleries. Apart from Google Photos.
The agreement between manufacturers and Google so that they can include the Play Store and Google Play Services includes a large number of mandatory Google apps, like Photos itself. And now there is a new step in this agreement: the HyperOS and ColorOS photo galleries, as well as their respective variants (MIUI, OxygenOS…), They integrate settings to synchronize content with the Google cloud
As Android Police discovered, both OPPO (and its second brands) and Xiaomi’s Photo Gallery add settings to expand backup options.
- OPPO integrates backup into Google Photos. In the gallery settings, the new version of the app adds a setting to automatically sync content with Google Photos. Additionally, it displays the space available in the account with links to its administration and the volume of mobile data consumed during synchronization.
- Xiaomi adds two-way sync to its reel app. The manufacturer had already removed the backup in its cloud to opt for Google Photos, but now, as Mishaal Rahman discovered in Android Police, the synchronization also goes in the opposite direction: the Xiaomi gallery allows you to automatically import all the Google Photos images and videos.
The news demonstrates the closer collaboration between Google and its partners. And that’s a benefit for those of us who use our phones, because we can opt for the simpler, standard galleries, without losing the possibility of making the copy in Google Photos. Because yes, the Google gallery is very good, but also quite heavy. And the fact that there are options is always good news.
