While Google’s efforts are currently focused on Android 15 — which shouldn’t take more than a few weeks to be released to the public — and whatever’s coming to Gemini, the search engine company wants to reach more users, especially PC users.
In fact, it already does so through applications such as Quick Share, compatible with the Microsoft operating system. Conversely, the Redmond firm is also strengthening ties with Google with a native file transfer function, or one that will allow you to explore the internal memory of the mobile phone from the PC. They are re-marrying with Google’s novelty: Laptop Essentials
An exclusive Google app for laptops
As we read on the official blog of the search engine company, the arrival of a new application is made official. It is called “Essentials” and includes some of the Google Services that we are used to using on mobile phones.
This acts as a link where other applications and services such as Google Photos, Google Messages, Google Drive and a few others. For now, as confirmed by the American firm itself, it will be pre-installed on new HP laptops.
But It won’t be left alone in HP laptops: “Later, it will come to other Windows PCs to provide an even more integrated experience,” says Google itself. We don’t know if it will also be installed as standard or if it can be downloaded from the Microsoft store.
Currently, in Windows 11, Google has dedicated apps for some of the services that come with Essentials, although each one depends on its specific app. With this change, there will be no need to switch between applications when you move from photos to messages, for example.
Additionally, Essentials will bring a free trial two months for new subscribers, allowing us to expand our Google account storage completely free of charge. The first users to receive Essentials will be owners of an HP laptop from these ranges: Envy, Pavilion and Omen.
Of course, in case this is not helpful to us, Google confirms that we will have “complete control” over your experience, allow uninstallation any part of Essentials or the entire package. What else does it include? Well, another special feature of the new app is that it gives access to Play Games: you can play Android games directly on your PC.
