New smartphones from brands like Samsung, Google or Xiaomi have something in common: they are very powerful, probably more than the average user needs today. But they also share something else, a problem linked to this power: they are too hot.
Even with advanced cooling systems, such as vapor chambers, most modern phones achieve annoying or even harmful temperatures when performing heavy tasks such as playing video games. Sometimes you just need to use certain apps for a while for the phone to warm up; and that's a problem, both short and long term. Extreme temperatures over a long period of time can affect internal components, such as the battery, and shorten the life of the device.
The good news is that soon we will be able to check if the cell phone is getting too hot and what steps to take to solve it; at least, if we have a Pixel. As they discovered in 9to5GoogleGoogle phones, from Pixel 6 to Pixel 9, are updated with a new feature to measure the device's temperature.
To find the new feature, you need to open the Settings app, enter Battery and “Battery Diagnostics”. Here we will find several options to indicate what is happening, including “The phone is very hot”; Currently this feature only checks that the phone settings are optimized to reduce the phone temperature, but if we install the new update a phone temperature indicator will appear.
This meter will not only show the temperature in degrees of our cell phone, it will also tell us if it is worrying. For example, what many people don't know is that electronic devices have a temperature range in which they can operateand they can be too high or too low. If we take the cell phone to a place where it is very cold, on this screen we will see a message that warns us that the cell phone may suddenly turn off.
This function will inform us if the cell phone is operating within the appropriate temperature range or if it is a little warm but this is normal during use; In this case, you can tell us that certain functions like screen brightness or network speed can change to reduce temperature. In the worst case, it will warn us that the mobile will limit performance and pause certain functions to bring temperatures within a safe range.
To obtain this function, you must have version 1.0.693922709 of the Pixel Troubleshooting application; At the time of writing it does not appear that the update is available in Europe, although it is very likely that it will be a progressive release as is usual with these updates up to date.
