Mark Gurman has leaked some details about what we might see beyond the iPhone 15 presentation in September. The Bloomberg editor used his Power On Sunday newsletter to describe what would be Mac release schedule this fall.
The M3 chip would be the protagonist of these versions. It would be present in a first batch of new Macs, those that need an update and/or those that sell the most. And beware, jumping from M2 to M3 is more important than you might initially think.
It’s not just a number: it’s more power in less space
Apple would put this M3 chip first in iMacs, 13-inch MacBook Airs, and 13-inch MacBook Pros (which for some reason refuse to die). The biggest leap would be made in the iMac, jumping from the M1 to the M3 without considering the M2. Apple’s all-in-one desktop hasn’t been updated at any time since its redesign was unveiled.
But even going from M2 to M3 will have its what: the M3 chip has a new 3nm technology in its transistors
The rest of the computers (Mac mini, Mac Studio, MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inches…) will have to wait a little longer to receive these chips. Gurman also mentioned, in passing, a new iPad Air for this fall and a new iPad Pro with an OLED display for 2024. The Vision Pro may have delayed those launches, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be cancelled. We will have a month of October and November quite rich in novelties.
