It’s been a little over a year since we started talking about Max, the new streaming platform that replaced HBO Max. Initially it was only available in the United States, but gradually it expanded to other territories. In fact, we were able to try it when it arrived in Latin America a few months ago, in February this year. Finally, Max arrived in Europe to replace HBO Max.
The platform arrives in our country with a series of changes that deserve to be taken into account: we can now access a much more complete catalog, including content from Warner Bros., Cartoon Network and DC Universe. And not only that, since there is also room for sporting events and we will have access to Discovery programs, the popular television channel.
It is necessary to download the new Max application to access the platform
At this point, you’re probably wondering what you need to do to start using Max if you’re already an HBO Max subscriber. One of the benefits of change is that the company took care of everything
The only thing we have to keep in mind is that Max is a completely independent applicationwe will therefore no longer use the application from HBO Max to access the platform’s content catalog. Instead, you need to switch apps and install the new one application from Max to access the new service. Despite this, it is something simple.
To install the new Max app, you just need to go to the Play Store and download the new one application free. If you were already an HBO Max user and you installed application from HBO Max, it is generally not necessary to reconnect. If necessary, you can do this using the email and password you used to access the HBO Max app.
If today you were not an HBO Max user but you are a old subscriber of the platform, you can register on Max using the account you used at the time (this way you will keep your profile information). In doing so, the platform will ask for your payment information so that you can renew the subscription.
If you enter the HBO Max application that you have been using until now, you will see a notice about the change. As you can see, the previous application no longer allows you to access the content of the platform, so once you have downloaded the new one application from Max you can delete the HBO Max app without any problem.

Max arrives in our country with two basic plans and a sports supplement that we can add to either of the two basic plans. Here are the details of each of them:
- Standard package: It provides access to the complete Max catalog in Full HD quality and allows us to play content on two devices simultaneously. In addition, we can download up to 30 different titles to watch them without an Internet connection. The Standard plan costs 9.99 dollars per month or 99.90 dollars per year.
- Premium Package: This package will allow us to enjoy Max’s content catalog in 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos quality (subject to availability). This is the most suitable plan if you want to play content with the highest quality and on more devices, since it supports up to four devices simultaneously. The number of titles that we can download is greater than in the Standard plan, since we can go up to 100. It has a price of 13.99 dollars per month or 139.00 dollars per year.
- Sports supplement: This add-on provides access to live content from UFC, tennis and more. In addition, we can also watch the Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 channels. It has a price of 5.00 dollars per month.
And if you had the 50% off offer for life?
HBO Max offered a 50% lifetime discount as a welcome offer, which generated a lot of interest at the time. If you’ve been a subscriber since the beginning, you might be wondering what’s going to happen with this promotion: the company has confirmed that Max will continue the 50% offer to subscribers.
Despite this, doubts remained about what features and functionality they would continue to have access to in Max. Specifically, it wasn’t entirely clear whether users receiving the 50% discount offer would still have access to content in 4K quality (since the new Standard plan is limited to Full HD quality). The company confirmed the following to us:
“Existing HBO Max customers will be migrated to Max while retaining the features of their current plan for a defined period of time. They will be notified in advance if changes to their plans are necessary.”
However, we must point out that the promotion does not allow changes to the subscription, so if at any time you change your plan you will lose the 50% discount.
