This is one of the most surprising new features of iOS 18 that Apple had not yet talked about.
Just days after the release of the third iOS 18 beta update we discovered a very interesting novelty which will reach all iPhone models compatible with iOS 18. Now, it will be possible record calls directly from the Phone app of iOS 18.
In fact, call recording in iOS 18 also offers the ability to make a transcription to text. There’s even a little extra on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence: a call summary.

Call Recording and Transcriptions in iOS 18
There are several ways to record phone calls from iPhone through different apps from the App Store. But until now, Apple has never offered a native method to record calls on iPhone.
With the arrival of iOS 18, it is no longer necessary to go to a third-party app to record a call. Apple’s own Phone app lets you record calls on the iPhone.
When you start a phone call on iPhone with iOS 18, you see a new option to start a call recording. It’s as easy as pressing a button! Now, since it’s legally required to let the person you’re talking to know that their voice is being recorded, the Phone app takes care of it itself. inform your caller that the call is being recorded.
The call UI will display something similar to iOS 18 voice notes with a counter and a red square button to stop recording the call.
Additionally, once you’re done recording a call in iOS 18, you can also save a transcript of it. And Apple Intelligence’s AI will automatically take care of create a summary of everything that was discussed during the call. A particularly useful function in the workplace or when planning other daily tasks.
Call recording transcripts are stored in the Notes app. From there, Apple Intelligence creates a text summary of everything that happened during the call on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
But there is good news for the rest of the users! The call transcription feature does not require the use of Apple Intelligence
Call transcriptions will be available with iOS 18 in the following languages and regions:
- Spanish (USA, Mexico, United States).
- French France).
- English (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore).
- German Germany).
- Japanese (Japan).
- Mandarin Chinese (China, Taiwan).
- Cantonese Chinese (China, Hong Kong).
Call recording isn’t currently available in the iOS 18 beta, but we won’t have to wait long to enjoy the feature. In theory, it will arrive alongside the release of the final version of iOS 18 in September 2024.
