FaceTime has become one of the best features of iPhone and other Apple devices, it is even compatible with Apple Watch. and they have already passed more than 10 years since its presentationwhich was realized during the WWDC of the year 2010 during the presentation of the new and revolutionary iPhone 4, the first with a front camera.
In a recent interview on the Techmeme podcast, Justin Santamaria, a former Apple iPhone engineer, talked about the creation of FaceTime and iMessageas well as the reaction Steve Jobs had when he saw the iPhone video calling platform.
I was in my boss’s office with the team… and someone was in another office, and someone else was in another office. We were using four computers set up to work, and I remember being told what to do, pretend it was working. It’s beta software, weeks before release, you know (…) when FaceTime made that “woom” sound, that’s when it came out of the “woom” in the view 3D, and I remember Steve being like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to piss the crowd off in their pants.’
FaceTime, an innovation from 12 years ago still present
With FaceTime, Apple has brought video calls closer to the majority of users and has begun to build one of the pillars of its ecosystem. FaceTime is available for making calls between iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or HomePod. It’s an essential feature that was introduced 12 years ago and Steve Jobs had a really good time presenting it.
Santamaría also spoke on the podcast of blue and green iMessage bubbles, which are currently in the midst of major controversy, as well as unlocking emojis so that people outside of Japan can use them. Functions that we use every day and that were developed many years ago.
This kind of apple stories are just awesome. Something similar when several former employees of the company met to talk about Steve Jobs and his best stories. Surely there are still plenty of untold stories, like when he paid for other people’s food without spending a single dollar or when he called the CEO of Disney to tell him straight out that the Marvel movie “was crap.” .
