During a trip, whether long or short, it is quite common to use a navigator to guide us along the way to avoid getting lost. The problem is that constant browser use can end up causing a good part of the internet tariff you have contracted is consumed. And that’s a problem if you don’t have a rate with unlimited data, or if you go to areas without coverage.
In this situation, it is better to download the maps you want to use to avoid having to constantly shoot the Internet. There are plenty of navigation apps that allow this, and with the arrival of iOS 17, Apple Maps is also adding this much-requested feature.
Apple Maps is boosted with offline maps
And it is that among the features of iOS 17, which you can already try before anyone else by downloading the beta version, Apple Maps has received the possibility of download the maps that interest you the most with the WiFi network.
It is really important to plan in advance the route to follow, since it is not necessary to download, for example, the whole Spanish territory. This is what you want if you are traveling from Madrid to Barcelona You will only have to download the maps of the regions through which you will passcompletely omitting the rest you won’t need.
To be able to perform this download, you will simply have to perform the following steps (as long as you are already on iOS 17):
- Open the Apple Maps app.
- On the bottom right you will see your Apple ID profile picture which you need to click.
- From the menu, select Offline maps.
- It will automatically show you to download your default city when detected by your location. But if that’s not what you want to download, click Download the new map.
- Enter the city you want to download in the search engine and click on it.
- The map will open where you can zoom in or out so that the region of the map that is included in the white frame that appears is downloaded.
- Once selected, click Download.
It is important to note that several areas of the map can be downloaded from finish by going through the complete route that you are going to follow. In addition, all updates that appear on the map (for changing roads, new forbidden directions…) will be installed automatically.
