More than ten years have passed since MSN Messenger closed its doors for good, eleven years to be precise. Skype ended up assuming all the capabilities of Microsoft’s famous messaging application, it barely managed to defend itself in the field of smartphones: WhatsApp, Telegram and others closed all the doors to it. Now: do you want to reclaim some of that past with a pinch of nostalgia? You can set MSN Messenger ringtone on your WhatsApp.
I don’t know if they were good times or bad times, just different. When you were sitting in front of your PC, you opened Messenger and automatically notify all your contacts that you are connected. And those legendary buzzes, those winks they sent you even if you pretended to be busy. Yes, Messenger had its good sides and also its bad sides, especially for the most controlling users (nothing changes). If you lived during this time, the mythical “tinuní” may give you chills.
How to set Messenger tone on your WhatsApp
When it comes to customizing notification tones, your Android mobile supports this operation on two levels: or for the entire phone or app by app. If you load the MSN Messenger tone as your notification sound, all apps will play the “tune” when sending an alert. We prefer to leave the “memory” only for WhatsApp, because nostalgia must be administered in small doses.
For the process, you just need to download the MSN Messenger tone and your WhatsApp application. You already have the second, for the first you can go to this link for Zedge, one of the legendary personalization applications on Android. Click on the “Download” button and the notification sound will be downloaded to your mobile in MP3 format. You will have to wait a bit until you access the download.
When you have the file on your mobile, follow the following steps:
- Open the WhatsApp app.
- Click on the three dots in the top menu and select “Settings”.
- Go to “Notifications”.
- Enter “Notification Tone”.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and click “Add ringtone.”
- Go to the “Folders” tab and go to the “Download” tab: there you should find the “sonido_messenger.mp3» that you downloaded from Zedge. Check it and accept.
In case this does not allow you to add the WhatsApp tone (this happened to us on a Motorola), try adding it to the sound gallery from system settings. For that:
- Open the settings of your Android mobile and go to the “Sounds and notifications” menu. The specific name varies depending on the phone brand.
- Scroll down to notification tones and click here.
- Look for the option to add a custom ringtone, it’s usually at the bottom of the menu.
- Load the “sonido_messenger.mp3» from the “Download” folder.
- Now repeat the previous process of adding tone to WhatsApp. You will now see MSN Messenger among the options to choose from.
And that’s it: every time you receive a WhatsApp, the legendary “tinuní” of MSN Messenger will sound on your Android. As your groups never stop talking, you will soon tire of the sound, it will almost be like old times.
