Here’s how turning on 5G affects your iPhone battery

5G

We haven’t tired of saying it time and time again, having a next-gen connection enabled while mobile networks are in development usually means a noticeable drop in battery performance on your iPhone, however, a recent study clearer, in a totally objective way, what is the result in daily use.

We show you the real impact of enabling 5G on your mobile device and how it affects the battery.

Find out with us, because the result can seem totally surprising if you don’t apply the simplest logic.

Although the study was carried out in the United States of America with the telephone companies T-Mobile and Verizon, the reality is that it is totally applicable to our environment in Europe, where 5G is not only far from being fully implemented, but in many cases it does not even offer any real advantages over the previous technology (4G – LTE). Data analysis was carried out by The Wall Street Journal

and the result is as expected.

In the case of the iPhone SE (2022), there is a loss of approximately one hour of autonomy between 5G and 4G. The difference is even more noticeable in the iPhone 13 Pro, where we see that thanks to 4G connectivity we are close to 16 hours, and if we have activated 5G we are barely left in 13 hours. Another palpable difference is found in the iPad Air (2022) taking into account that we would reach 8 hours with 5G enabled and we would reach almost 11 hours when using 4G connectivity.

As you well know, this is because the 5G connectivity is currently poor and the device is sending a lot of power to the air in an attempt to reach 5G networks.
