A wind of change is blowing at Samsung, but it is necessary. Although the Korean manufacturer continues to be the reference when it comes to Android, at least in terms of sales, the growth of Chinese brands like Xiaomi and its eternal rival Apple is surely hurting it.

But Samsung has only itself to blame, after a few years of unsurprising releases. These aren’t bad versions, beware, and in fact, the Samsungs are still among the most recommended mobiles; but in many ways they hardly change from year to year.
Deep changes at Samsung
Fortunately, the company is already in a process of transformation. We have already started to see some changes, and it is expected that all Samsung phones launched in 2023 will follow the design lines of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which will give them a premium and different touch. And from 2024, more changes could be coming.
For starters, this month Samsung introduced its first female president in company h istory, Lee Young-hee, who now heads the global smartphone marketing hub. And today an important signing was announced, that of Huber H. Lee.
Lee is the new head of the MX (Mobile eXperience) design team, ie the team dedicated to the design of Samsung smartphones; a deserved position considering the two decades of experience in the sector and the various awards it has received in the United States and China. It was in the latter country that he was most influential, as chief designer of Mercedes-Benz China. At the premium automaker, he led several projects that influenced the modernization we’ve seen at Mercedes-Benz in recent years.
Curiously, Samsung and Mercedes-Benz have already worked together in the design part of smartphones; Specifically, a few months ago a Mercedes-Benz Galaxy S22 Ultra was launched, a special edition with covers and accessories inspired by the German brand. It’s unclear if this is when the contact between Lee and Samsung employees took place, but regardless, we can expect great things in the future.
Given that the Galaxy S23 lineup is expected to launch in a few months, it’s highly unlikely that Lee will be able to influence the mobile design; but it is very possible that the Galaxy S24 and future foldable models will receive major changes.
