You are young, you have just turned 18 and you are arriving in London for the first time to study your dream career. After an intense week of studying, Friday arrives and you try to enjoy an evening with friends. Suddenly you are at the door of a place and someone snatches the iPhone from your hands and tries to escape without making too much noise.
This is what happened recently to a young woman in London. A young woman without fear, of course, since she did not hesitate to run after the thief. And his appearance (his) wasn’t exactly the one that best suited a chase through the streets of London.
“I wasn’t afraid at all”
Ariana Roy is an 18-year-old girl who arrived in London for the first time last September to continue her university studies. She is from Washington and in the capital of the United Kingdom, she intends to obtain a degree in finance at Regent University, which does not mean that, like many young women, she wants to have a good time and enjoy the London night.
This is what I did on the night of September 27, around ten thirty in the evening, I was with several friends at the door of a place and She saw a suspicious guy start to approach her little by little.. The one who would ultimately be a thief, acted discreetly, even if it would ultimately not be of much use to him.
At one point, the young woman realized that she no longer had her iPhone in her hand. “I was shocked,” he told Yahoo News afterward. After that first moment and determined to get the phone back, she said she wasn’t afraid and instead hoped the thief wouldn’t get away with it.
When the criminal realized that the young woman was chasing him, he started to run further. And Ariana Roy had no problem with that, even though she wore knee-high Prada boots, which, based on the photos, aren’t exactly the best sports accessory for running around the streets of London. Not even anywhere, wow.
“I couldn’t yell at him.”
The fact is that after running about a kilometer and a half, and without the young woman being able to catch up, the thief ended up running into the police. The police must have seen the scene of the chase and suspected that something had happened.
The thief was immediately arrested by officers. They confronted him in front of a glass case so they could handcuff him and, according to the robbery victim’s recollection, they also beat him. In the middle of the scene, Roy admits to having approached the thief and shouting at him from a few inches from his face. “Why did you think I’d let you take my fucking phone?” Of course, the police asked him to come home. “I couldn’t yell at him,” Roy said.
The thief, a 26-year-old man, was immediately identified and charged with theft. In just three days he had a speedy trial at Westminster Crown Court and pleaded guilty himself. The court ultimately sentenced him to eleven weeks in prison which he is probably still serving, given that this trial took place on September 30.
For the young woman, it was an experience to share on TikTok. And despite the complexity of the case (at night, in a city that is not his, with shoes not suitable for running…) he managed to catch the thief and recover his precious iPhone. As she herself admitted, she wasn’t going to let him get away with it.
