This afternoon, Apple released the latest update that was missing after the string of new releases these days: HomePod software update to version 14.3. This is compatible with the original HomePod and the HomePod mini and is now available to all users.
This update applies the typical performance and stability improvements, in addition to updating HomePods with the new features that the rest of Apple devices have acquired with iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.3, tvOS 14.3, macOS Big Sur 11.1 and watchOS 17.2.
The speakers also need their firmware optimized
HomePod software is what Apple called the firmware for the Apple TV, which was born on iOS but became tvOS-based last April. The change makes sense: Like Apple TVs, HomePods don’t have a display or battery. Therefore, the architecture of the two systems is more similar.
Los HomePod automatically apply default software updates, so you don’t have to worry about doing it manually if you’re not in a rush (it’s recommended). If you want to force the update, you can do it in the Home app: there is a button with a home icon that contains a subsection to update the software. And if something goes wrong, remember that you can restore HomePods to factory settings with this guide.
